How do you describe the mission and purpose of the United States in one long sentence? The Preamble to the Constitution! I created a free, interactive drag and drop activity to help students learn the Preamble. On my old website, this was quite a popular activity. However, I had to pay for the service where I stored this drag and drop, so I revamped it with a new free program and moved it here.
The Preamble is the least a student should know about our government. It states the purpose of the Constitution and the role of government in the eyes of our founding fathers. Not to mention that “We the people” is a phrase that students will encounter in politics and news. Our students should at bare minimum recognize that phrase is a reference to the US Constitution.
To help them truly learn it faster, make an in-person/class review where the phrases of the Preamble are listed on separate sheets of paper and students must rearrange them. You can give groups of students a set of the Preamble phrases or have the whole class participate with each student holding a separate word. This kind of review is great because it gets students out of their seats and appeals to kinesthetic learners.
You can try your hand at the review below, but you can also use this link for a cleaner version for your students.
Do you need a video to explain the Preamble? This video does the trick!
I also have a Declaration of Independence drag and drop review here!
